The Serie A starts a little early this week as the league plays a rare Friday afternoon match. Genoa hosts Inter at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, this match can see the home side jump into 4th place or see Inter go over hated rivals Milan into 2nd position.
Inter had fight for a 1-1 draw in their last match, and once again it was Samuel Eto’o who found the back of the net to save the Nerazzurri’s blushes. Eto’o has been nothing short of clinical scoring 7 goals in 8 league games, that is not including the Champions League were he has 6 goals in 3 matches. Coach Rafa Benitez is in a bit of a tough situation, because any success the team has it will be said that it is “Jose Mourinho’s team”. However, the ability not to screw this up is a feat in it’s self and he should be given some credit. Also I think he found a future star in Philippe Coutinho, this kid has looked really good in a short period of time and can make it in the Serie A. The player most comparable to him is Jack Wilshere on Arsenal when he was first breaking in, if he gets use to the life in the Serie A and Italy and builds up his strength he will be a player to watch for Inter. If they are to get a result against Genoa they will need to be tighter defensively, on their last two outings both domestically and in Europe they weren’t convincing.
As for Genoa, for what was expected from this team they have been a disappointment. They went out and surprisingly spent a lot of money with a top 4 place in mind, and at this point of the season it hasn’t panned out. While Luca Toni and Giandomenico Mesto only have 4 goals combined, other players like Goalkeeper Eduardo have been an excellent purchase. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is a good coach, but he’s under a bit of pressure to be more then a mid table team. The Serie A coaching carousel is infamous and if Genoa keeps under achieving they might have to go into another direction. If they are to get a desired result they will need more from their midfield, a player like Miguel Veloso comes to mind. He has the ability to take over a game, and now with a few games under his belt he needs to try and express himself more
